Yeah, I remember Sega doing a Castle of Illusion remake for, I believe, PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 era consoles. It was pretty but it certainly did not capture the magic of the original. So much they could have done with this license if they simply had tried.
I would have loved to see a remaster of Castle/World of Illusion using the Clockwork Knight engine on Saturn, or even using the engine from Bug/Bug 2 or Astal, anything showing they gave a damn about fans from the 16-Bit era.
Sega and Disney were a class act together. Sega should have done whatever they needed to to hold onto that license. I loved Quackshot as well, such a fun puzzle action adventure that I went into with no hope of liking - I bought a used game and the store put Quackshot in the case by mistake. I lived 2+ hours out of town at the time so I was going to get it corrected the following week, I ended up loving Quackshot and never said anything to the store about it - it was better than the game I intended to get.
