DekaDuck is currently on Kickstarter looking for funding, check it out, especially 2D side scrolling run and gun platforming fans. This time you are a space bounty hunter facing quite a challenge ahead.
Unique Graphics, Challenging Gameplay
I want to point out I have played the demo, available on their Kickstarter page so I do have hands on experience with this one. Demos are wonderful.
They point out DekaDuck, all one word apparently, takes inspiration from Mega Man, Silhouette Mirage, Alien Soldier and more. Giving the game some time before writing this, I can see the inspirations in action.
You can grab enemies, throw them (in fact some areas require this tactic) and even use them to traverse dangerous sections of the levels. This is a great tactic included that opens up the level designs to far more challenges than a simple 2D side scrolling engine might allow.
Promises of the Kickstarter
DekaDuck apparently is aiming to feature many worlds and levels within those worlds. The Kickstarter shows off six different worlds are planned. That is a good bit of variety.
Animated GIFs show off different playstyles as well. Such as a side scrolling shooter similar to R-Type or Gradius.
They go on to show some of the workstations used to create DekaDuck, discuss inspiration farther, and offer some bios for characters. Worth a look if you are a fan of this style game. I know I am.
The developers are active with updates and replying to comments (though admittedly, only one at the time of this writing).
Their goal is $35,000, they have raised about $12,750+ as of this writing and they have 148 backers with 27 days left in the campaign.
If you a fan, you can pledge now, you will not be charged unless the project is successful in getting funded. Momentum is key with these things and it seems DekaDuck is having a bit of trouble in this area.
This could be due to the team being in Brazil and not having much experience reaching out to the press. So, word of mouth advertising it is.
