Robotech, or Macross, is one of those cartoons that was iconic in the 1980’s. There simply was nothing else like it on network television at the time. While G.I. Joe and Transformers were hot, they were clearly in a different league than Robotech. Robotech further separated itself from the other cartoons of the day with storylines that carried over from the previous episode. There were consequences that had to be dealt with as the story progressed. This was something unique for cartoons in the 80’s as for the most part, everything simply reset after each episode. Maybe that was to preserve the value of the various toys or it was just lazy storytelling. Who knows what drove the story back then as the cartoons existed solely to sell the toy line.

Robotech had plenty of toys available back in the day. Model kits, action figures, transforming planes, etc were all available. One thing that was not available was hyper detailed miniature figures. Until now.

Check out the miniatures that will be available later this year. These are super cool. What is amazing about them is the attention to detail that has been captured here. Each transformation looks like it should and features a lot of little details that might have been impossible in the 80’s for figures that stand 4 to 7 centimeters tall.

The Battloid mode shows the iconic machine taking aim at the behest of its pilot. Will it hit its target? Only the dice know.

Fighter mode is probably the one mode that most of us remember seeing first and thinking this is going to be a jetfighting show. Oh how wrong we were.

Guardian mode was the one that made me stop and take notice of the situation. This was no regular jet like we saw in G.I. Joe or Transformers (for the most part as I am leaving Jetfire to another discussion).

Want to secure a few of these for your own tabletop gaming? Check out Kidslogic and let them know I sent you. I get nothing for that other than word of mouth about what I do here.

If you have a bit more money to burn and want bigger toys, check out eBay for some Robotech fun.
