Fans of side scrolling shooters that are also fans of the 2.5D look will need to sit down for this. R-Type Delta is getting a remake called R-Type Delta HD Boosted. No matter what console, or if you are on PC, and are a fan of R-Type then you will be able to enjoy this one.
Minimal Updates Needed
The term “HD Boosted” in the title kind of alludes to the fact that this is not a full on HD remake of R-Type Delta. Instead, it feels like the developers behind this have improved the still quite impressive visuals from the original PlayStation version.
Things that used to flicker no longer do. Textures are a lot cleaner, certain levels are brighter and easier to see what is going on, and more. It is almost like what Bleemcast was attempting to do on the Sega Dreamcast – improve the visuals with an uptick in resolution and available processing power.
I know R-Type Delta HD Boosted is much more visually impressive than that but that is the closest thing I can compare it to. Remember, this is not a full on HD remake. This is more of an update.
Also, Bleem never touched the audio, it was focused on graphics alone. R-Type Delta HD Boosted is improving audio as well.
Is R-Type Delta HD Boosted For You?
This greatly depends on your feelings towards side scrolling shooters in general. For me, I love them. While I suck at them now, I enjoy playing them anyhow.
If you are not a fan of scrolling shooter games then you are probably not going to be persuaded by R-Type Delta HD Boosted. It is just not meant for you. That is okay, there are tons, literally hundreds, of other games with updated graphics, better sounds, etc from gaming history that may tickle your fancy.
For those with an itchy fire button, R-Type Delta HD Boosted will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Steam for PCs, and the Xbox Series platforms later in 2025.
Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 will also receive physical copies, according to Gematsu.com.
