I got one back in 2003 when I needed it. I have long since moved onto GBA for portable gaming in that regard. I also now have a 3DS and such - something about Nintendo developed games.
I agree with you about the controllers, sure there are USB options but they just don't "feel" right for some reason. Weight maybe? Quality of plastic used? Something seems off about these options. Whenever possible I have bought console specific plugs to USB cords but sometimes those are super expensive.
