Fans of Capcom’s arcade classic Ghosts ‘N’ Goblins you are in for a treat. The fan port has been completed and released on the Commodore Amiga. Heads up, there are difficulty and lives settings so maybe this version is not TOO brutal on us old timer gamers.
Before we get too far into this announcement, the Commodore Amiga version of Ghosts ‘N’ Goblins requires a 2-button joystick for optimal fun. You can play using a keyboard, but both options require some fast memory.
Itch.io member jotd666 has stated that this port features exact arcade gameplay, a service mode, and all seven levels in 64 colors.
This port has been in development for a while; it is great to see it finally released.
Alpha Gameplay
Conversions like Ghosts ‘N’ Goblins are special in general but especially for fans. I remember my brother being infatuated with this game in arcades. He dropped tons of quarters in it. I was never a die-hard Ghosts ‘N’ Goblins fan, the difficulty was just too high for me.
When we got a Nintendo Entertainment System, I received a used copy of Ghosts ‘N’ Goblins from a friend for a trade of Rad Racer. I did better, helped by not having older teenagers barking at me to jump here, duck there, etc.
I am sure someone, probably US Gold, ported Ghosts ‘N’ Goblins to the Commodore Amiga back in the day. I am also sure they didn’t do this well with their port. That is not a knock, or should not be taken as one. Companies have concerns fans don’t – investors, stockholders, bosses, deadlines, etc. Meanwhile, fans often develop in a much more relaxed environment as they have time.
With that said, let’s enjoy Ghosts ‘N’ Goblins on the Commodore Amiga, as it should be. Fans will love it, those of us that feel the difficulty is high, we can enjoy most of the first level.
