We are nearing the point where it is easier to list what Doom has not been ported to than it is what it has (I am just joking). Seriously, Doom has been made to run on ATMs to some pregnancy tests and more. Now we can start checking off file formats such as PDF of all things.
Doom has been ported to a lot of things, including other file formats. I mean, someone got Doom running in Windows Task Manager of all things. It just looks like a super pixelated “blue” edition of sorts. Still impressive they were able to accomplish this.
Even the soundtrack for Doom has been ported to things like printers. Dotmatrix of course. This is just wild.
When I started this article, I was thinking a PDF version of Doom was probably the wildest so far. I was obviously wrong.
If you weren’t around for the Super Nintendo port of Doom back in the day, or are only familiar with the Limited Run Games re-release then um, yeah, not sure how the original got released. That game was rough. Anyhow, it was bad, probably worse than the 3DO version or worse yet, the Saturn port.
This version of Doom running in the PDF format looks to run better than all of those versions of id Software’s title.
Seriously, this is probably more impressive than something you would want to put time into as far as completing it. I am sure someone will “no damage run” this port and post it to YouTube sooner than later though.
I am always amazed with just how far fans will go to create another port of Doom for something none of us ever thought of running it. PDF’s is high on my list of “no way it will run” options. I am happy to be proven wrong.
