What would Battlefield 1942 look like running on the venerable Commodore 64? We may never know that exact game, but we can see what the introduction video looks like. This feat was accomplished by a YouTube creator.
Do not get your hopes up too far
Obviously, the Commodore 64 is not capable of playing even the intro video for Battlefield 1942 in all its glory. The video is playing within the confines of the computer itself. This means very low-quality definition and lack of colors for the most part.
What is here is quite impressive. I mean, this is a Commodore 64 after all. A computer released in the early 1980’s. It was never meant to run this type of file.
How this was accomplished
Well, before you say it, I know this is not running on the original hardware, alone. There are additional hardware features helping here. To that, I say, duh. There is an REU Video for 1541 Ultimate Cartridges, Turbo Chameleon 64 and I am sure other things. Those are the two mentioned in the description of the video over on YouTube.
My question is, what do you think of this? Let me know in the comments below.
