Standing (or not) For The Flag

I will stand for the flag but I will also stand for your right not to.

I will stand for, and take you at your word that you are protesting the words to an outdated song, and for the fact (yes, I see them too) that gross inequalities do still exist.

I will stand for your right to fly your Confederate flag and take you at your word when you say it is about heritage to you, and not hate. (because I have heard about the unfair taxes and Lincoln's suspension of the constitution; both sides had their evil agendas) (I will also understand my African American friends' revulsion to it, as they have seen it used by people who DO hate)

I will stand for the flag (and weep), when I see it draped across a brother's or sister's coffin who made the sacrifice to serve. (even when I think the government that sent them to that end is not so pure of heart AND because I do believe we are all brothers and sisters, even when we disagree)

So I will stand for the flag myself but I will stand with the man(or woman) that kneels silently with reverence. (I will even stand for-but not with- the disrespectful butt-hole doing aerobic stretching on the sidelines, and reserve my right to call him such)

Finally, I will stand for MY right to stand for the rights of ALL of my fellow citizens of this imperfect country, and pray for us all; trying to have a better understanding and greater compassion for all.
