Is it obvious that issues exist?
Does it make sense to make changes when the outcome is uncertain?
There are tons and tons of talk about changing the economic model of the Steem blockchain.
My opinion on it is as follows:
I believe that there is a major issue on the blockchain. The wrong behaviors are those that are being rewarded.
I don't think anyone should blame people for doing what is in their OWN best interests... That's just human nature -- doing what is best for yourself.
And so, I see the need for a change. I see that this system is broken and that the only way to fix it is to change something..
But what if changing Steem is the wrong choice?
What if the better choice is to have SMTs and use those for better content discovery rather than changing Steem which businesses have already built on and have expectations for.
I think changing the fundamental economy of Steem is a bad choice.
I think opening up the floodgates for SMTs that could provide SUPERIOR returns than self-voting/bid-botting is the right solution because it won't disrupt any of the buidlers here on Steem already.
Thoughts?
