Let's Drink and Walk? [CCC's Street Art Contest #162]

Good morning!

This is a mural which I saw in the little town of Arzúa, Galicia, and as you can see by the picture, this is another town which you'll definitely cross if you're doing the Caminho de Santiago (St. James Way).

This is my entry for the CCC's Street Art Contest #162, hosted by @digi-me.

A few years ago, Street Art was considered to be criminal, an act of vandalism. But now? Things have turned around completely and as you can realize by this mural: even corporations have embraced it and are starting to use such murals as a form of advertisement for their brands.

The mural is really cool, that is certain but the publicity feels a bit weird to me.

Why?

Well, if you have heard of the Caminho de Santiago you know that is a pilgrim's path which starts either in Portugal or France and ends at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Even though you don't have to be religious to do it, the origins of this pilgrimage are definitely Catholic.

So, to advertise a beer on what should be a religious experience it feels like a contradiction to me. What next? Advertising alcoholic drinks on Formula 1 events? Oh, wait, they already do that! 🤣🤣🤣

Anyway, the mural looks great and if you can ignore the publicity, it's a great artwork taking the whole side façade of an apartment building. It certainly looks a lot better than a bare brick wall...
