In south Africa our self-defence permit lasts a duration of 5 years and we only allowed one firearm for self-defence and any other firearm must be licenced for occasional or dedicated sports. My self-defence permit will be eligible for renew in August however we can renew 90 days prior to expiry.
Anyway, I am trying to get at the fact that I will now be eligible to have my self-defence slot available and possibly change my carry gun because I want to shift away from my Glock 23 and get something new and my choices came down to a Glock 27 or a Glock 30s.
The Glock 27 is a .40 calibre and the Glock 30s is a .45 ACP but surprisingly I have shot both guns and find the recoil much better on the Glock 30s so I am inclined on working towards getting the Glock 30s for self-defence.
Another major plus on the Glock 30s is the greater stopping power but look at the specs below and see the reason for my choice.

I prefer ankle carry therefore I will find that this is comfortable to carry on my ankle and my choice of holster will be the Galco ankle holster like the below:
