New World
Around 1620, a larger group of immigrants arrived in the northern new world. By then this small english settlement had undergone the refiners fire and survived. Only the most hardy, enduring and innovative remained.
There were no huge plantations. No cash crops of yet. No dominion of native peoples. Little or no gold. All there was was people dedicated to surviving, who were then infused with other freedom seeking and cooperative people.
The rich power-accustomed leader worked hard as everyone else or left, with few such coming back.
Southern Countries
Maybe for 150 years, lots of precious metals and plantation cash crops went to Europe from south and central america. Plantations continued to serve Europe over time, addicting them to sugar cain, tobacco, coffee, chocolate, etc.
Greed destroys wealth. Twice as lucrative in gold and crop potential, the lower americas, controlled by baron-like conquistadors, often did little to benefit Europe or themselves. A few got rich but much potential was left untapped or drained.
It is now rebuilding as these latinos, rich in natural resources of land, intelligence and ability, conquer poverty and improve themselves. They are growing and may now benefit most from current trade.
To be fair, many of that time were simply doing their jobs, following a culture of serving the crown and supposedly helping the natives.
Lesson
The real potential was in ideas, people and effort. The small beginnings of a perfect seed in pretty good northern soil, outreached the best efforts, achievers and rich soils further south.
Although the internet boomed as predicted, it wasn鈥檛 all smooth sailing, with many failures along eventual big successes, such as google, yahoo and amazon.
Blockchain has similar potential, by bringing participatory money and user-governed companies to everyone. Yet we still seek the bitcoin model to make money, hoping for early monopolies of riches and land.
Truly innovative hard work may eventually produce world-changing currency, where exponential gains are only of this beginning, and long term growth is very significant but gradual.
