My wedding preparation started as something that wouldn't happen. As it is said in our country, what's a wedding without planning?
We had just come back from visiting a church member, who had just come back from his wedding which they had at a very low-key style because both couples were introverts and so they didn't elaborately hold the ceremony even though they were stinking rich, they showed us pictures of how their wedding went and I thought to myself, why am I killing myself over having a big wedding when there wasn't even any money to hold such big ceremony and I already had a son and was even thinking of having another.
That day we got a point of contact from our friend's wedding and that is how I told hubby "Go and collect the marriage list o, so we can be officially married" That was where the wedding planning started.
Initially, I had been expecting a big wedding party because of how our tribe people do conduct their ceremony, but after seeing how they did there even though they were rich people, this made me change my mind about having a big party and there was something my husband did say then, he always said that we should plan on things that after it all we wouldn't regret it.
After the list was given, we began buying some of the things that were required of us, I was already thinking of how people were going to talk about how little we were doing the wedding, but God came through in the form of the COVID-19 lockdown protocol and that was how I cancelled everything " ASO-EBI" This was another way to further expand the wedding guest list and also make money, and thank God I cancelled it because the people on that list weren't people I was close with, and so it was even somehow to have them be among the train of girls.
We decided to have a court wedding(Registry) and the main traditional wedding, and God was so good we had the traditional marriage in Lagos also courtesy of the lock down which was another added advantage for us to save cost, We followed the procedure of the court and our date was given (August 13), I got a very simple gown for myself and also made my hair in the simplest form possible, I had my makeup artist on standby and when she came she delivered well, the Registry consisted of only my parents the photographer, the registry people and two of my husband friends, this was a very simple gathering that didn't takes more than 30 minutes of our time, we hired an uber and went back home.
The main event was the Traditional wedding which we fixed for the 22nd of that same month, at the initial planning I and my husband weren't agreeing on some things, people said that was normal and at the end of the day we came to an agreement on what we wanted.
we had invited a decorator to decorate the venue we were using for the ceremony and thank God for the COVID instruction that not more than fifty persons should be seen in a gathering and that was what we did, we even hired security officers to stay at the gate so people without nose masks wouldn't come in, well at the end of it all everything went on fine.
Though it was the big wedding I had always visioned myself having, but the peace of mind after everything was done was what I was most happy about, Let's just say my wedding party was a nice one, not with too many people, but it was okay as there was enough item 7 and also even after I left there were still people coming to eat.
