As another holiday season swiftly approaches, I'm delighted that my family and I will celebrate right here in our residence town of Lagos, Nigeria. Rather than worrying over ornate preparations, we choose to focus simply on cherishing our time together amongst loved ones. There is no place like spending these precious days in the comfort of the home we've built, immersed in traditions old and new.

I picture us gathered together on Christmas morning, the rich aroma of jollof rice and stew wafting from the kitchen as hungry smiles await mom's time-perfect holiday feast. Bellies full, my sisters, aunties and I will likely slip away to peel and chop ingredients for the next exciting round - boxing day chicken pepper soup, a hearty signature passed down for generations. The men's booming laughter echoes from the living room as they recount tales from holidays past now immortalized in our family lore.
In the evening when the neighborhood starts to glow under strings of lights draped from building to building, we'll take an after dinner stroll waving fond merry Christmas greetings to longtime friends and shopkeepers. My kids, nieces and nephews will dart excitedly onto front porches where they're welcomed in for sweets and new toys while adults chuckle relishing their contagious joy.
I wouldn't trade these humble connected rituals among beloved communities woven into Lagos' rich cultural tapestry for any elaborate vacation abroad. For what feeds the spirit most during December's gentle reflectiveness lies in simply breaking bread shoulder to shoulder with those who feel like home.
For the new year, rather than scrambling to find lavish parties or crowded events on the big night, except after attending the crossover service the previous night ,this momma is going all out ushering 2024 in with just my family's magical energy lifting spirits higher than any glass of bubbly. After they drift to sleep January 1st, I'll gently rouse them before sunrise announcing, "It's 2024!! Rise and shine my beautiful family"
The new year is going to be filled with so much fun in our compound as it will be a time for a get-together, sometimes last month we had a meeting about having a small party amongst ourself there in the compound, Here we would invite our individual families to come over and we would celebrate it together, this get-together will comprise of enough food that will be cooker together and and also the kids will have enough drinks to make their bellies so full.
This Holiday season is going to be the best, I perceive goodness and kindness all around this season, I will love it so much cause we get to spend it with family, close friends and neighbours around.
I overheard one of my neighbours say he will be bringing entertainment to the get-together, this will make it more fun and and it would create so much good memories amongst us.
One thing that still makes this holiday seems very interesting to me is the fact that there would be a little break from school and this means that I would be free to have all the fun I want for the holiday.
So for me, I believe my plans are on point and they are set, it will be a good time to enjoy and have memorable day.
