I once had a faulty tap at my apartment.
Whenever I got home from work, my bathroom floor would be flooded because of the tap and I'd have to spend the next few minutes cleaning and mopping the floor.
One day, I got home and found out that not only had my bathroom floor got soaked, my whole room was covered with water. My rug, my shoes, and everything I had on the floor was soaked. It was a terrible experience. The next day, I fixed the tap and the wet floor stopped.
Relating this to finances, if you check very well, you'll discover that there are little 'drops' of expenses that are leaving your savings which you cannot properly account for.
These monies may have been taken regularly overtime to satisfy a craving or something irrelevant. If you're not careful, you might find yourself in a financial mess.
For me, my financial leaking tap was the excessive urge to own gadgets. Whatever I earned, I always took out of it to get myself a gadget. I woke up one day and found out that I was broke. My finances had leaked into gadgets.
So I fixed my financial leaking tap by curbing my love for gadgets.
The year is still fresh.
