I've always known Indians to suck at football and this might be due to the fact that they are more of a cricket nation but one thing that amazes me most is how a nation of over a billion population hardly produce a world class player in European leagues. When you make a list of great players in European leagues only an Indian names would be missing in the list, (or let me say Asians players)
While growing up as a kid I've always wondered why India has not been participating in World Cup and I used to hear all sorts of rumors that India actually violated FIFA rules and were slammed 50 years ban but I grew up only to realize it's because they always get eliminated at the World Cup qualifiers.
Historically, football isn't a game that freaks a Indians compared to cricket. China aren't too good in football but at least they still produce great players sometimes. At least we know the likes of Sun Jihai who placed for Manchester City, Li Tie who placed for Everton and several others.
Look at African football, although African football is still going through developmental growth but at least we can still see Africans players doing well in European leagues. We can still the likes of Mo' Salah, Sadio Mane, Diddier but the same can't really be said to Indians. You hardly see a successful Indians players.
India is not the only nation that is less interested in the game of football but they really do suck at it. I've watched few of their games before coming into conclusion
Apart from the fact that historically football hasn't been important for India and are more of a cricket nation but the main reason why they suck at football is because infrastructure isn't already in place for it
