Weekend-Engagement week #251: My biggest personal triumph

Six years ago someone tried to hurt me and he did it because he touched one of the most sensitive parts of my life. In that discussion she told me that I was a failed man because I had not been able to have children.

I remember that many of those who were listening reproached him for those words and told me to ignore them, but the damage had already been done.

I had been alive for more than 50 years and I had known for a long time that I could not have children, but it still affected me.

When I went home my mother noticed my depression and when I told her what happened she told me something that I share in this publication because she told me that I was not a failed man and that she considered me a man who had succeeded in life.

Here I tell you what I remember from one of the greatest life therapies I have received in my life.

My mother asked me and answered herself: Do you know why you are a successful man in spite of not having material wealth?

• You have managed to become a nationally recognized teacher because of the merits you have reaped.
• You gave 30 years of your life to the teaching profession and this work has given you many sons and daughters who love you like a father.
• As director of a university branch, you were able to train and graduate thousands of education professionals.
• You have represented your country and your institution in national and international scientific events and workshops.
• You have managed to study, achieve a university degree and a postgraduate specialty that have made you a competent professional.

However, what made me cry was when she told me that for her I was a successful man because I was an excellent son and a good person.

I don't know if this is being successful for anyone, but, for me it is the greatest lesson of success I have ever received because my mother told me so and, that is enough for me.

I am currently working as a knowledge management director of a research center and I am happy in what I do and there is nothing more comforting and successful than enjoying what you do.
