Una introducción necesaria
Esta es la segunda vez que visito este lugar, pero lejos estaba de imaginar que pasaría una semana tan llena de alegrías y vivencias positivas. A diferencia de la primera vez pude caminar mucho más y conocer las riquezas que tiene este paraje cubano. Sin embargo, dentro de todos estos tesoros hay uno a los que quiero dedicarle esta publicación.
Por tales razones, esta es una publicación dedicada al monumento que significa la Casa del Café que se encuentra en Topes de Collantes, una zona que se encuentra dentro de los enclaves utilizados como parte del turismo de naturaleza que se desarrolla en el país.
La Casa del Café
Muchas de las personas que me conocen saben de mi afición por el café y mi gusto obsesivo por esta bebida. También es sabido que me encanta aprender disfrutando. Todo esto lo pude vivir con mi visita a la Casa del Café.
Cuando usted entra se percata que está en un lugar mágico y no por la belleza del lugar, sino por los tesoros que guarda. Reconozco que cada visita a este lugar era una clase sobre café en lo que aprendí cosas que ni imaginaba que habían ocurrido o no tenía ni idea de su existencia. Cuando terminó el viaje se hizo más cierta la frase del filósofo Sócrates: “Sólo sé que no se nada”
Historia del Café
En el recorrido por la casa te encuentras que el barista te lleva por la historia del café, pero, si te pierdes algunas de sus palabras o no lo entiendes podrás leer en una de las paredes un cuadro en el que te explican cómo surge, donde y en qué circunstancias.
Las rutas del Café por el mundo
Una de las cosas que aprendí fue las diferentes rutas por las que circuló el café, los países y regiones que más se han destacado en su cultivo y porqué en la actualidad los grandes centros del grano están en estas áreas geográficas. Cuando escuchaba al barista comprendía mejor los conocimientos que le impartía a mis estudiantes, cuando abordaba estas temáticas en clases. Es increíble cómo llegas a retroalimentarte y redescubres lo que creías saber.
Distribución del Café en Cuba
Uno de los elementos a los que más atención le presté fue al inicio de la producción de café en Cuba, su distribución geográfica y sus zonas más importantes. Al igual que en lo referido a las rutas de café por el mundo, aquí pude comprender mejor porque las zonas montañosas han sido las zonas cafetaleras más importantes del país y pude comprobar cómo esta tradición se ha mantenido a lo largo del tiempo.
Las bellezas de la casa
Pero lo mejor de esta aventura fue poder apreciar las distintas reliquias y piezas que tienen en el lugar que constituyen la historia viva y el desarrollo del café. Cuando escuchaba al barista hablar sobre las funciones de cada una de estas piezas mi esposa me preguntaba por qué tenía los ojos humedecidos y le dije que me parecía estar viendo a mi abuela y a todas las demás abuelas que nos enseñaron el arte del café y que hacían esta bebida en esos coladores de tela y lo servían en ese tipo de tazas.
Un café en la casa
No podíamos irnos sin probar el café, para ver si el barista era tan bueno haciendo café como explicando la historia, travesía, producción y todos los encantos del mismo.
La verdad es que fue un cierre espectacular a nuestra aventura en este lugar. Por eso, cuando me preguntaron sobre los tres mejores lugares en los que había estado durante esta semana no dudé en poner en ese Top 3 a la Casa del Café.

Si alguna vez visitan Topes de Collantes no dejen de ir a la Casa del Café porque es un lugar en el que te diviertes, aprendes y consumes un café de una calidad extrema. En mi caso hubo algo adicional y fue que, estaba celebrando la partida de una pareja de amigos que se iban a vivir a otro país y el 26 aniversario de matrimonio con mi esposa. Sin lugar a dudas, una aventura agradable y un regalo exquisito.

There are privileges in life that feed your soul and fill you with happiness. These days I have experienced several of them because they gave me as a stimulus a trip to Topes de Collantes, a place located in the Central Cuban Mountain System known as the Guamuhaya Massif.
This is the second time I visit this place, but far from imagining that I would spend a week so full of joys and positive experiences. Unlike the first time, I was able to walk much more and get to know the richness of this Cuban landscape. However, among all these treasures there is one to which I want to dedicate this publication.
For these reasons, this publication is dedicated to the monument that is the Casa del Café (Coffee House) located in Topes de Collantes, an area that is one of the enclaves used as part of the nature tourism developed in the country.
The Coffee House
Many of the people who know me know of my love for coffee and my obsessive taste for this beverage. It is also known that I love to learn by enjoying it. I was able to experience all of this during my visit to the Casa del Café.
When you enter you realize that you are in a magical place and not because of the beauty of the place, but because of the treasures it holds. I recognize that every visit to this place was a class on coffee in which I learned things that I never imagined had happened or had no idea of their existence. When the trip ended, the phrase of the philosopher Socrates became more true: "I only know that I know nothing".

During the tour of the house you will find that the barista takes you through the history of coffee, but if you miss some of his words or do not understand him, you can read on one of the walls a picture explaining how it arose, where and under what circumstances.

One of the things I learned was the different routes through which coffee has circulated, the countries and regions that have stood out the most in its cultivation and why at present the great centers of the bean are in these geographic areas.
When I listened to the barista I understood better the knowledge that I was imparting to my students, when I approached these topics in class. It's amazing how you get feedback and rediscover what you thought you knew.

One of the elements to which I paid the most attention was the beginning of coffee production in Cuba, its geographical distribution and its most important zones. As in the case of the coffee routes around the world, here I could better understand why the mountainous areas have been the most important coffee growing areas of the country and I could see how this tradition has been maintained over time.
The beauties of the house
But the best part of this adventure was being able to appreciate the different relics and pieces that they have in the place that constitute the living history and development of coffee. When I was listening to the barista talking about the functions of each of these pieces my wife asked me why my eyes were watering and I told her that I felt like I was looking at my grandmother and all the other grandmothers who taught us the art of coffee and who made this beverage in those cloth strainers and served it in those types of cups.
A coffee at home
We could not leave without tasting the coffee, to see if the barista was as good at making coffee as he was at explaining the history, journey, production and all the charms of coffee.

In my case there was something additional and that was that I was celebrating the departure of a couple of friends who were going to live in another country and the 26th anniversary of marriage with my wife.
