Greeting everyone,
How are you?
I hope you have an awesome day today that is better than yesterday.
WALK AROUND 0KM, KOTA KINABALU
Did you know where the origin location marked as 0 km is in your town? Have you ever thought, if there were 12km, 40 km, or even 120 km to reach your destination, where was the 0 km? I have been thinking the same for a long time until I know where the exact 0 km is in my town. As far as I am informed, that place is now in the current tourism building, but to be honest, I dont really know what was in the previous building when the British still colonized our country. The only one that I know of was the bank building during the British era, which is now the pillar art of Sabah, where most artists have painted their art on those buildings. Fun Fact: Behind the pillar art building was the 12-inch solid wall that was built as the bank vault a long time ago instead of using the iron vault.
Here I am standing at the 0 KM origin location in my town..
You can see one of the love KOTA KINABALU, SABAH signs, which I think is one of the checkpoints that you should visit. You can get a lot of information about tourism sites or dates that are available during your visit here. Even if you do not come during office hours, they put some printed information outside the building so you still get the information that you need. Trust me, it's much easier to get information from them than from the internet. I didn't say the internet is bad, but as we know, there is a lot of noise and expired information there.
Check the building site. For us, it still maintains the authenticity of British architecture. It was sad, but the fact that our city planner didn't do a good job (in my opinion) when it came to preserving the originality of historical buildings in this capital city I have been a lot of places; of course, some are still keeping their original buildings in town and some are not, but I much prefer the building that was made hundreds of years being to be maintained and kept for our next generation to see it. I feel so sad at my young age because there are so lot beautiful historical buildings being demolished to make new buildings. The old building is much more sturdy compared to the current building (I didn't say all, but most of the latest projects keep using cheaper and less quality material because many of them love profit more than satisfaction when making those beautiful latest buildings).
Check the tourism building that still using the old building design.
WALKING AROUND THE STREET
The following block was made recently—not that recent, but after our independent day. Those buildings still have Chinese vibes because the first and maybe current owners of those blocks were majority Chinese and some British. You can say that this was the first center of development after the independents, those who actually owned and controlled the business a long time ago.
Imagine this place still doesn't have good infrastructure, and you can count how many cars are on the road. The local people are still staying out of town, probably still making a living by hunting wild animals or doing argiculture because they were the first to open new places in the jungle. There was no proper education being taught until after Independence Day, when they made proper silibus for everyone. There was actually education being prepared by the British at that time, but it was so limited and mostly only available for those who lived near the town. If they are lucky, they get that village to learn from, but if not, the only thing they can do is hunt and farm. Oh ya, some place education is being brought by the Christian missionary. Besides education, they also introduce better medicine to the locals. Thanks to them, the locals, who are pagans, open their minds to say yes to education.
Let's walk around town :
If I'm not mistaken, it was the only brick-paved road in town, but it was rarely used. I guess not just this one, but almost all roads in our place are very rarely serviced.
My favorite Bak Kut Teh restaurant (strictly for non-Muslims) There were a lot of Bak Kut Teh restaurants around this place, but I always come here because the food is awesome, generous portions are served, the owner is friendly, and it is not crowded.
This is almost a traditional Chinese medicine store. People today mostly believe in modern medication. But, according to history, Chinese medication has also evolved year by year and has been proven to help many patients.
Don't believe the signboard: "Never Close Super Mart" is closed from midnight to early morning. Believe it or not, this shop was owned by a Pakistani boss.
The water fountain is still working. While relaxing in this place, you can enjoy the warm sunset and golden hours. It was almost sunset at this time, but I forgot to get the golden hour view at this place. Maybe next time. Trust me, it was a nice place to sit and relax at that fountain.
THE BLACK AND WHITE VERSION BUILDING NEAR 0KM
Of course this was the tourism building with black and white version.
Just around the corner in front of the tourism building .
The corner lot in the same block as 0KM is where the cars come from the main road to get onto this Gaya Street road.
CHECK OUT SOME RANDOM PHOTO AROUND THIS PLACE :
It was Saturday evening at that time, and this place was full of people on working days and at night. There were a lot of office lots in this area, especially the bank; you'll be lucky if you can get instant parking during peak hours. Other than that, this place is also full of popular restaurants. There was a variety of them; I can say it was one stop for food hunters.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy today's series. See you on another journey. Cheers.
