Hello my fellow Hivers!
How are all of you doing today? I hope everyone is having a wonderful week.
It been quite awhile since my last blog. I was busy with work and some other things, so I forgot to update my journey here. Today I want to share one of my simple Sunday outing with my wife during her off day.
Last Sunday was my wife off day, so we decide to spend some quality time together. We don't really have any big plan, we just wanted to relax and enjoy the day. After discussing for awhile, we decided to visit Lau Pa Sat, one of the most famous food places in Singapore.
Actually, this place is quite special for me. Few years ago I was studying around this area almost every day, but somehow I never visited Lau Pa Sat even once. I always pass by outside only. So this is actually my very first time going inside, although I have been around this place many times before.
The first thing that caught my attention was the building itself. It is an old heritage building standing proudly in the middle of many tall modern skyscrapers. The contrast is really beautiful. It make me feel like the old Singapore is still living together with the modern city. I couldn't resist stopping for awhile just to take some photos from outside.
The weather was a little hot that day, but luckily there were many clouds covering the sun. Since it was Sunday, the area was much quieter than I expected. Usually this place is full with office workers during weekdays, especially lunch time. But because many Singaporeans were enjoying their off day, there wasn't too many people around. It actually make walking around much more comfortable.
When we finally entered Lau Pa Sat, I was honestly quite impressed. The green iron pillars, the high ceiling and the old architecture make the whole place feel different from a normal food court. It got a very classic atmosphere but still looks clean and well maintained. There were so many food stalls everywhere. Chinese food, Malay food, Indian food, Western food and many more. Everywhere I looked, something looked delicious, so choosing what to eat was not easy.
For my lunch, I picked mixed rice with fried chicken, long beans, tofu and of course sambal. The fried chicken was crispy outside and juicy inside, while the sambal was really nice. It was spicy enough and gave the meal much more flavour.
My wife decided to eat Mala Tang, which is one of her favourite. I also tried some of it. Honestly, spicy food is not really my favourite, but luckily she only ordered the lowest spice level. I found it still acceptable for me. I can't imagine eating the other three higher spice levels!
We also shared a plate of fruit rojak, which is quite popular back in Penang. The sweet, spicy and nutty sauce with the fresh fruits really bring back some memories. It was a nice snack after our main meal.
One thing I also noticed was the toilet. Well... it is Singapore, so I expected it to be clean, and yes, it really was. Everything inside Lau Pa Sat looked well maintained and organised.
After eating, we didn't rush home. We just sat there for quite some time, watching people walking around. Some were having lunch with family, some meeting friends, while many tourists were busy taking photos just like us. I really enjoyed that relaxing atmosphere. Sometimes doing nothing is actually the best part of the day.
Overall, I really enjoyed spending my Sunday at Lau Pa Sat with my wife. It wasn't about eating expensive food or visiting some famous attraction. It was simply spending time together after her busy working days. Those simple moments sometimes become the happiest memories.
If you are planning to visit Singapore, I really recommend adding Lau Pa Sat to your list. Besides the beautiful heritage building, there are so many different foods waiting to be discovered. I'm sure we only tried a very small portion of what this place has to offer.
I definitely will come back again next time... because there are still so many foods waiting for me to try! 😄
Thank you for reading, and see you in my next blog.
