What would you answer when I say that the human mind is not very capable of distinguishing people from ideas? If you declare yourself as an enemy of an idea, how can you not attach it to human beings, for ideas are products of humans?
I mean, there has to be some challenge to it, no? If it were easy we'd live in a different world. What helps me personally is when I notice I'm associating the idea to the person I try to tell myself that they're acting out of fear, that they don't mean to harm. We see ourselves as the good guys of the movie, but we need to see everyone as the good guy to be able to understand how they have arrived to the conclusions and later actions they have arrived to. Think, "that could be me", and at least in my case at that point I'm less likely to focus on their "failure" for taking to the idea, at that point I'd begin to focus on how I can avoid getting to that point, it helps me in trying to understand how they understand things. Often times you can even help the person get over misguided ideas if only you understand how they came to accept them in the first place.
The moment I hear a word like "money" or "world" I immediately start to associate
And this is natural, it's an evolutionary trait meant to help you survive. We can't help it, we're going to judge. Just make sure the judgement is useful for something. If you realize you're judging just for the hell of it, to the point of attributing enemy characteristics to another person, it's time to take a break and analyze what took you on that line of thought.
