ONE
I don't know how long I have been here. There's no way to know. Before the country changed so much, I went to Las Vegas with some friends who are not my friends anymore. What my parents jokingly said about what happens in Vegas stopped being true when the higher-ups made the 24-hour hotlines available to all citizens. Good people sold their own family members out, with the full anonymity of course, for the reward. I never blamed anyone. Things got hard. Things got hard...fast.
It wasn't so much anything I did in Vegas that cost me friendships. It wasn't anything I said or even saw. I have always had a natural respect for authority so being a law abiding citizen was never a choice, I just was. I lost friends after finding out what the people on the trip did to one another once we arrived home.
There was no way around the interview once we landed. The 091101 zed code made the interviewing of all travelers a fact of life every time someone travels. Every passenger was shuttled into the small cubicles to sit across from an agent for a few minutes or longer depending on what that agent heard or sensed, valid or not. When commercial travel became more of a luxury, there were fewer and fewer flights or trains. Half as many seats to book, three times as expensive, and four times as much security. The only loser was the passenger unless you give credence to the media. This was all for us, all for the country, and the only way we could expect to travel safely. The reality of it all is that things are done to us, sometimes for us, but always whether we like it or not.
With no basis for comparison having never traveled commercially before, I had no way of knowing whether the questions I was being asked were standard or if I was being interrogated for a reason. After answering seemingly the same set of questions reworded slightly each time and not answering anything any differently than the round before... because there were no alternative answers. The truth is the truth. Finally, I was guided to the other side of the terminal where I could board a city shuttle headed in the direction of home sweet home.
With the exception of the Association Alert I received because of my link to each of my friends on social media, I never saw or heard from my travel companions again. The system sent out a standard message letting me know that my friends had been arrested so that I could feel comfortable confessing involvement with any crime or infraction I thought might be applicable rather than wait to be arrested myself during the course of the investigation should I be implicated in any way. A few percentages followed to show how much more lenient the punishment on a citizen who turned themselves in rather than wait to be hunted down and drag, drop into the recycle bin on my screen. CrunchCrunchCrunch! My animated garbage can icon gobbled it up. Never to be seen again. Nothing to confess. Nothing to declare... other than extreme disappointment that would cast doubt on every image saved from my first... and probably last trip to Vegas.
There you have it. Part One. I will be holding Part Two hostage until Part One receives 100 upvotes. This will tell me that this tale is a welcome break from all things crypto and that some of you really want to know what is happening to this character. By the way... is the character male or female? And what does this have to do with Cryptocurrency?
