The Wox was the first restaurant I visited when I arrived in Istanbul. After tired of traveling for eighteen hours in the air and transit, then refreshing ourselves with the wind that blows along the Bosphorus, finally at night, our stomachs finally sounded the hunger alarm.
Because this is my first overseas trip, and I know the big thing that I will face while abroad is the difference in lifestyle, especially the culture shock about food. I'm curious what the first menu will be on my first night in Istanbul.
Even though it was still cold, that night the Istanbul air was not too cold. Even in Isanbul there was no trace of snow, the scenery here almost resembled spring, even though it still took another month to get to spring.
Departed from the Golden Horn just after sunset, and arrived at the first restaurant after half an hour's journey.
The bus dropped the passengers at the crossroads, the rest, we had to walk about another 200 meters to get to The Wox.
We were careful when walking, because the narrow road was actually passed by four-wheeled vehicles. The Wox is located in a row of other shop buildings, but what makes The Wox easy to find is, because the exterior of the restaurant building is bright red.
Among the rows of buildings beside it, only The Wox had a different color. From the outside, it appears that the interior of the restaurant will be dominated by the same color.
Starting with a small staircase, special tables for our entourage have been prepared in such a way and have arranged various typical Turkish appetizer menus.
Our tour guide, Hamdullah explained to us that The Wox is a restaurant with a Chinese concept located in Istanbul. But is the menu served by this restaurant a Chinese menu?
Apparently not! LOL
Although the circular table, the red color dominance, and the lantern ornaments used to decorate the room completely use the Chinese concept, this is in stark contrast to the menu that has been served on our table.
The main thing that must always be provided at a banquet in Turkey is soup as an appetizer.
The soup served at The Wox is the same as most soups served in Turkey. Lentil Soup.
Lentils are a type of beans, it's just that in Indonesia there are no beans of this type. Eating lenyil soup for the first time, for me this soup is still acceptable to my tongue. And warm soup for a cold day is enough to help warm the body. Soup goes well with crusty bread.
On the table are also available a variety of sauces and pomegranate syrup which is the most famous for mixed salads. Also there are oranges in small plates ready to eat.
After finishing with the soup, we were served the main menu in the form of rice, smoked shredded chicken, and fried potatoes.
Actually I feel both happy and depressed because there is rice and fried potatoes in one plate. Maybe this is a kind of choice for those of us who don't really want to eat rice, can choose with a substitute for fries.
The taste of the fate served is very tasty and tender. As for the chicken, I found it too bland. I add salt and pepper that has been provided.
The Wox consists of four floors. The ground floor is used for the kitchen, while we are on the second floor. Towards the third and fourth floors, there is a circular staircase dominated by gray and black borders.
The third floor functions the same as the second floor. The top floor is used for the bathroom.
Ok, Hive thanks for reading my post.
