Welcome to Day 2 of my Cranberries Tribute series. Today’s song is Linger. It was the second single The Cranberries launched and it was featured on their album debut album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? Dolores O’Riordan wrote Linger together with Noel Hogan.

They released it in 1993 and it became their first hit, hitting the charts in the Republic or Ireland, the United States and the United Kingdom. The original version has an acoustic arrangement featured a string section but it was later released in an acoustic, pared-down version on the album *Something Else in 2017.

Dolores later explained in in interviews how the song had been inspired by a boy who gave her her first real kiss as a young girl, only to dump her soon after.

I never knew that’s what the song was about, although it clearly talks of regret. From now on, it will speak to me of regret for the loss of an amazing musician and a mother of three.

Shall we listen?

As always, dear reader, thank you for sharing this with me.

Hugs

Tiny
