DETUNICORN interface

UJAM just dropped a free synth for spooky season and it is a one-trick monster in the best way. DETUNICORN does exactly one thing: colossal, detuned hypersaw stabs, chords, and leads. No preset browser, no menus, just six knobs and your hands.

Load it up, hit a minor chord, push Unison and Detune, and you get that wall of detuned saws like a JP-8000 possessed by something bigger. The Infinity knob feeds a huge custom reverb that drowns everything in space, Bite pushes the highs so it cuts through, Sub adds weight underneath, and Bend shapes an octave pitch envelope on each hit. The mod wheel rolls off the high end like a filter, every knob is automatable or MIDI Learn-able, and it answers to pitch bend, so it plays like a real instrument instead of a static patch.

UJAM's own head of sound design called it a "hypersaw massacre," and that is exactly the right description. The press release name-drops hyperpop and digicore kids, but slow this thing down, run it through some distortion, gate it, and you have instant industrial fodder. Layer it under your riffs, crush it, drown it in Infinity. This is a synth built for chords that hurt.

Honest notes: it is a collectible freebie, not a deep instrument. You need a UJAM account and their App to install it, and the free window is only 666 hours, so grab it soon or miss it. But once you activate it, it never expires, and the price is impossible to argue with.

Price: Free (666-hour Halloween drop; keep it forever once activated)
