They say there is no shortage of shopping malls or big open markets in Bangkok city there is one open market that, I wanted to see in my short visit to Bangkok city and that was Chatuchak Markets which supposedly is the biggest open market in Bangkok city with an estimation of more than 15,000 stalls and countless numbers of vendors and restaurants where you can shop and eat till you drop.
This market is relatively easy to get to with no confusion or excuse of getting lost you simply jump on the BTS Skytrain or underground MRT Trains and it virtually drops you at the front door, I opt to take the BTS Skytrain for the reason you get to see the city views of Bangkok city while you riding above the traffic, I hopped on at Akso BTS station and Mo Chit station is where you get off, it was a direct run no changing train lines, it took about 20 minutes and cost me $1.80 US (60 Baht) When you walk out from the Mo Chit BTS station it's about 200 meters walk along the main road if you follow the people you can't go wrong because just about everyone from the station heads towards Chatuchak Markets from the BTS station.
Following the main road from the BTS station will lead you to the markets but along the way, you will find several street food vendors if you like to eat before entering the main area of the markets and is what, I did only because it looked so fresh and I was hungry.
With a satisfied belly of Thai food I made my way through one of the many entrances did my covid temperature check signed the book and in I was this place was enormous from where I was standing I could not see the other end of this market I would say you would need a full week here if you wanted to see every store, I didn't even attempt to walk inside the hundreds of alleyways running in every direction through this huge complex, I just wandered around the ring road that runs around the outside of the market and this itself has hundreds of vendors and stalls including many little cute restaurants.
There are even a few entertainers around the complex all trying to make a buck.
8 pairs of socks for $3 US (100 baht) Had to get me some of them.
What they say about Chatuchak Markets, is if you can dream it they will have it and if they don't have it they will go out of their way to get it for you. The things they have in this huge complex are unimaginable to list the items I saw would be just impossible to list but I can tell you, you would not go home disappointed or empty-handed.
Plastic flower for decoration an abundance of them of every flower you can think of.
Many varieties of plastic fruits for decorations.
Everything is for sale here clothing, art, plants, ceramics, handicrafts, furniture, antiques, books, hats, pets, and as I said just too much to list and all at bargain prices the more quantity you buy the cheaper it gets.
This complex is spread over an area of 14 hectares the property is owned by a Thailand railway department when they relocated they converted this whole area to this massive shopping complex they even have a few big electric golf carts to drive you to your comfort around the market.
Anyone for shoes all at $5 US a pair.
The street food I was seeing here, had never seen so much in quantity and quality from the barbecued squid to the watermelon juice was just all mouth-watering.
Hect I didn't know what to feast my eyes on it was just all making me so hungry again.
And if you required a foot massage before going home after all that walking there were many around all from $5 US to $8 US a nice way to finish your shopping day.
Or you can indulge yourself in some of the most delicious Thai authentic cuisines in some of the most comfortable atmospheres eat in restaurants.
And that's me done I got my sixteen pairs of socks for $6 US is all, I needed but for the shopaholics, Chatuchak Markets is highly recommended you will certainly bring home lots of exciting new finds from here.
