Here I show my annual power bills total with my grid tied solar system. I get paid the exact amount it cost's me to buy a kWh. Rates for the actual energy are very low. The lower the rates are the bigger my bills are. I sell about 2/3 of everything I harvest from my solar panels. I pay import charges when I buy it back from the grid. Look at it this way, $430.00 per year is a really cheap battery.

If I went 100% off grid witch would be a stupid thing to do, it would cost me another 20 thousand dollars. At a rate of $430 dollars per year to use the grid it would take me 46.5 years to earn a ROI (Return On investment)
