Do you think that in, lets say five years from now, Steepshot will outperform Instagram in terms of active users and the daily posts numbers?

Unfortunately I don't think that this will be the case.

If we look at the rewards for posts and comments from the Steem blockchain for July we're talking about a total value in the region of a little over $2m, with Steepshot payouts in the region of $35k. Even if Steem were to go up by 100x, so a market-cap of $20bn, then total rewards for Steepshot would most likely only be a few million per month.

Compare this to the top Instagram earners who can receive up towards $1m for every paid post and it quickly becomes apparent that Steem doesn't have the rewards to compete with Instagram. Even if smaller accounts will do better on Steepshot, the goal will always be to make it on Instagram. To some extent the same is true when arguing DTube v Youtube and DLive v Twitch.

For me the strength of Steem may well turn out to be in adding rewards to web concepts which are currently unrewarded. Platforms like Musing, Steemhunt, Tasteem or Utopian are currently offering rewards where their direct competitors from the web offer nothing. If Steem can grab hold of these areas and become market leader, all of a sudden it will start to get noticed and attract attention and investment.

So if you asked will Musing outperform Quora, or Steemhunt outperform Producthunt in five years, I'd be more inclined to agree that this is a possibility. I think that these are the areas where Steem is more likely to cause disruption to existing industries. But we'll have to wait and see!
