With this post, I bring you Stephen King's latest short story found in the book "The Mist". This tale is not horror as we are used to from the author. Instead it is full of fantasy, shortcuts, intrigue, and I think even a bit of romance.

It is a story told in the future, that is, 7 years after Mrs. Todd's mysterious disappearance. Its narrator is the family butler, a man in his 70's by my reckoning and who apparently had a reserved feeling of love for Mrs. Todd.

The narrator takes us on a walk through his memories, emotions and sensations with Mrs. Todd, an active, slender, beautiful woman who was always driving around like the devil in her Mercedes. She was obsessed with always finding the shortest way. She had marked maps of shortcuts. Her insatiable quest was to achieve the shortest route in the shortest time and the butler, calmly followed her conversations, so they became friends of shortcuts, so to speak.

One day Mrs. Todd invited the Butler to take a tour of a new shortcut. They set out on the journey and the butler noticed that Mrs. Todd's countenance changed, she looked younger, bolder ... she was simply another woman, perhaps the Goddess Diana ... yes, the Goddess of Roman mythology, associated with wild animals and the forest.

The butler felt fear for this new shortcut that he had never seen in his life. That road gave him fear and he thought he saw animals he had never seen before, trees that moved at will and he was afraid of what could happen if they got stuck in a place like that.

One day Mrs. Todd told the Butler that she had found a new shortcut and was about to take it, as the mileage would be less than the straight line. The Butler was stunned, how could that be possible, if it was even possible ... or Mrs. Todd was losing her mind.

After that day Mrs. Todd mysteriously disappeared, but deep in his heart the Butler knew she was alive and had become the Goddess Diana, but to find out if that is true, at least in the story, you are going to have to read the book!

If you made it this far, thank you very much for reading, I hope you enjoyed the reading.
