NOW IN ENGLISH

A dear friend and former boss always told me "you have to measure very well which battles to fight, some of them are not worth it". I am grateful for that advice, because I was a kind of Quixote who fought against everything and in the end I ended up with my armor dented.

IMG_20220809_091241_830.jpg

By the way while I was writing this post, I searched the internet and the expression "A capa y espada" appears in the book "Don Quijote de la Mancha", and refers to the defense of someone or something above all things.

That you prefer to be happy or right
Above all things, you can imagine! there are many things at stake in that phrase. Above all things can be about my own good, about the good of other people, for example. Perhaps the phrase overlaps the blind decision to defend without thinking about the consequences. We are not here to face windmills, are we? It is better to measure very well whether a mission is really worth defending tooth and nail.

After chewing it, ruminating it, and ruminating it again, I came to the conclusion that it is the guide in my defenses, hahaha yes, now I measure very well which battles to fight. I don't want to be exhausted in fights and arguments without a solution that helps everyone involved.

Defending my life
In the post of the initiative A capa y espada, Esa vida nuestra, proposed by charjaim@charjaim, he asks a very particular question What situations would we always defend with cloak and sword? And the answer came to me immediately: I would defend my life with sword and sword, so, as my friend cochanet@cochanet said in one of her posts, "go get the cotufas". I'll wait for you, I have a very personal story told in third person: The woman is me.

A long time ago, in a place in La Mancha whose name I don't want to remember..., yes, the beginning is Del Quijote de la Mancha by Cervantes, let's go back to the story, there was a woman, not so young to be immature, not so old to be a sage, who lived in a glass bubble, in her world, in her own way.

One day she was diagnosed with a disease, for which no one is prepared, absolutely no one. That day her life changed and changed for the better, as she began to defend what really mattered: her life.

She promptly sought the health insurance policy, purchased as an extension - from the same insurance company where she worked for 5 years - after having resigned from her job 6 months earlier. She has a motto "a cautious woman is worth two", and that decision was absolutely the right one. The policy provided for the elimination of waiting periods for extension of the policy as an employee.

With relief he breathed, all medical costs would be borne by the insurance company. So far so good. What he did not expect was that, in the story there was an evil witch, yes, it happens in real life, that witch was the insurance intermediary who, upon learning of the pathology, decided to look into the medical file of this woman.

IMG-20221028-WA0120.jpg

And, as he who seeks finds, and he who wants to do harm, any situation, no matter how small, discovered that the woman had a pathology of cysts in her breasts. "Eureka" shouted the witch and with this information she requested that the pathology be denied coverage, alleging pre-existence. Well, the woman not only had to deal with the disease but also with the rejection of her claim to the insurance company. Of course she cried uncontrollably, the only thing she had to do was to dig the hole and throw herself in there.

But every story has a Don Quixote, in this story a knight in rusty armor appeared, yes that's from another book. But this knight did not fight cloak and dagger. That fight belonged only to the woman. What the knight did do was to fill her with courage, to fill her with strength and to be her pillar where she could rest while the battle lasted.

Full of courage the woman went to the insurance company. No, she did not talk to the analyst, she did not even think about the area coordinator and much less about the branch manager, because bureaucracy also reaches private companies. So she decided to go to the office of the Vice President of the company. She presented her case. In a slow, firm voice, she defended her situation. She was determined not to leave that office without a positive response to her request, and she succeeded.

Life is defended tooth and nail and this anecdote was the way I defended my life from an injustice. Thanks for reading, see you in a future post.

I invite cochanet@cochanet and doriangel@doriangel to join this initiative.
