Today, we all use public Wi-Fi in cafes and transport. But few of us think that free networks can pose a threat and imperceptibly harm us. We decided to figure out what danger lurks in free Wi-Fi networks and what to do so that you and your data remain unharmed.
One of the most common types of threats to Wi-Fi security are the so-called mediator attacks, or MiM (the Man in the Middle is the man in the middle). With this technology, attackers intercept your information and can replace it or transfer it to someone else. You use a public network and do not even suspect that the spy is here.
Another common hacking trick is redirecting you to a so-called cloned site. Hackers substitute the address and entice you to a site that does not cause any suspicion. Not noticing the substitution, you easily transfer your information to attackers in the form of a login and password.
Many of us are used to using the same email address to register on different sites, and we rarely invent a new password. This is quite convenient, however not only for us, but for hackers. Using the same Wi-Fi network with us, they can easily find out the password from the sites we visit.
