Here we are in the Adirondack mountains staring down at the cliffs of Saddleback (right) and Gothics (center) Mountains. This Saddleback Mountain is on the East Coast in Upstate N.Y. and has massive near vertical cliffs that are known for their disconcerting exposure. It is 2:20 pm on October 27,2017; I have been climbing for the last ten hours finally arriving at the summit of Basin Mountain from where this photo was taken.
Ultimately I was to descend Basin Mountain and climb up and over the Saddleback cliffs. Gothics will have to wait for another day- even the hasty descent from Saddleback to follow the Ore Bed Brook down to the trailhead was to take another eight hours. Ultimately I travelled eighteen miles and climbed up almost 5000 feet of elevation. These mountains have long approaches!
Exhaustion makes for very sound sleep- even if it is in the back of your car with the back seats pulled down and your feet in the trunk! :)
