The thing is, we're not living in a North American Union. The United States is still an independent nation-state, and thus, it has to maintain the integrity of its borders. Every single nation does this, and it's not a uniquely American quality. The people of Mexico have allowed their government to run rampant. It's chock-full of poverty and corruption. If you visit and overstay your visa by even a day, then you're fucking screwed, and locked up in a Mexican concentration camp (or jail cell), if or until you can afford to bribe your way out of there.
This is one of the many reasons you won't find me visiting Mexico illegally. If someone did decide to visit Mexico illegally, and brought their kid with them, then they'd be breaking the law with a minor in tow. Now obviously, the kid isn't going to stay in adult jail with the law-breaking American. Therefore, the child will get separated from the parent by the Mexican authorities and put somewhere else. If you break the law in America and it's a jailable offense, your child will be separated from you. This is for the simple fact that it's not proper to put a child in an adult detention facility. See what I'm doing here is trying to give you a glimpse at this from multiple angles.
If our monetary system was magical, and there was no chance of it failing, then I’d say let’s feed the entire world! People wouldn’t even have to migrate, we’d just wire transfer every poor nation in the world all the money it needs to create its private oasis in the desert, or utopia in the rainforests of Mozambique. However, when you get down to the nuts and bolts of it, the truth of the matter is the power of the almighty dollar is becoming more and more finite, and there are real consequences when the music’s over. Just like, there are real consequences with a personal budget, the only difference is this is a national budget.
Committing a crime is the very first thing that a Mexican citizen does when they migrate without using the proper channels. The countries laws are well known, and this is why people "sneak" in, it is because they know they are breaking the law. That right there is a horrible start, it's far better for all involved to migrate according to the rules. Every country has this, if you take a vacation anywhere you'll realize that you have to do the same thing. It doesn't mean that all countries are racist, just that they have borders, in the same way, that a house has doors.
"No. You know why? because Both of them have money enough to take care of their own. They dont usually want to come here when it means leaving their family. Because to Mexicans, family is everything."
How many impoverished families are you willing to take in your home and feed? Once you come up with that number why not ask yourself if you can do more? The second half of this comment is me quoting myself from another post where I left a similar comment on the topic of migration.
"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
The sonnet on the plaque was written at a time when America's industrial base was strong, and there were no social welfare programs. At the time, when people wanted to migrate to America (just like when someone wants to take a vacation) they'd have to save up for the trip and all the expenses it entails. Generally, an aspiring migrant might have people already living in the country willing to sponsor them for long enough as to get them on their feet. Either that or they already had a job lined up. There was no guarantee of free anything when they arrived. Perhaps, there was a good chance at ample job opportunity, but that was the extent of it.
I think Americans who are opposed to unchecked immigration for the right reasons—are opposed to the criminal element, and those who abuse welfare programs. America is traditionally a very capitalist society. However, somewhere along the way, it has evolved into an insidiously socialist system which taxes people to the point where men and women are forced to live from paycheck to paycheck. In 1893, when the above poem was written by Emma Lazarus, there was no income tax. Whereas now, you have people coming into the country and drawing benefits from a system they haven't yet substantially contributed to.
I think if you nix all the social programs in America, or make them voluntary and stop the rapists and criminals and drug dealers at the gates. You'll find out that all these people who you think are racist don't care so much about immigration, just so long as employers are forced to hire people at legal wages. This key element is what will allow Americans an equal opportunity to get the job. Depending on the employer, it will generally be either the most qualified or hardest-working candidate who gets the position. I also think that corporations who take advantage of cheap prison labor should be forced to pay minimum wage.
That right there would unburden family members of those corralled in by the prison industrial complex. Not everything is so simple as racism; there are lots of moving parts in what makes or breaks America. All the socialist ideas that the Democrats have been pushing is the final nail in the coffin. Hyperinflation is the last trick for a fiat system whose currency is on the verge of collapse. They want to print us into oblivion, that way when it fails, everyone who had their hands out and fell for the free money bit can share in the blame of the destruction of our economy.
