It is Christmas eve today and I was awoken earlier than I was expecting, which was at 630am that isn't too early but do keep in mind I didn't get to bed until after 1am last night due to our late night excursion to a site called Whalers Bay on Deception Island. However, regardless of how tired I felt this morning, the early wake up call was due to the fact that a large pod of Type B orca were curiously swimming around our ship in the Gerlache Strait.
So I jumped out of bed, quickly got dressed and grabbed my camera and went to the upper outer deck to experience a close encounter with the apex predator of the ocean. The pod was huge with roughly 20-25+ orca scattered on either side of our ship, swimming under the vessel constantly whilst looking up at everyone on board who was looking down at them taking photos. Keep in mind that this happened only about 20 minutes ago from when I am posting this image and post! Welcome to expedition life in Antarctica!
I shall be quite tired for the rest of the day but 100% worth it!!!
