There are 3 brush tail species of penguins that breed on the Antarctic peninsula that we frequently encounter when we explore this part of the Crystal Desert. The Gentoo, Chinstrap and Adelie penguins and it can be quite rare to see more than one species in a single location. However, it does happen from time to time in certain sections of the peninsula where they will be interacting with one another in some sort of manner.
Here we were at a primarily breeding site for Chinstrap penguins and there was also a small breeding site of Adelie penguins close by and before we knew it an Adelie penguin jumped up in the middle of the Chinstraps. These animals don't exactly bother one another but judging from the look the Chinstrap penguin is giving to the Adelie it doesn't seem that this penguin is exactly welcomed. It appears the Adelie penguin quickly realized he was in the wrong area and began moving through the colony heading back for the ocean to continue on its way to find more familiar & no doubt more welcoming faces.
