Blue Whales are massive! yet not that common to see in many parts of the world these days, since they were hunted almost to extinction only a few generations ago. I have spent quite a few years and countless hours working and guiding on the ocean in various regions around the world. Prior to to earlier this year in February I have never seen a blue whale before.
The ship I was on arrived at the Stanley, Falkland Islands/Malvinas, where after talking to a few locals I found out they had sighted a large congregation of Blue Whales near South Georgia, which happened to be our next destination. This photo doesn't really do this animal justice but you can easily tell it is indeed a Blue Whale with its colouration and splotchy pattern along its back.
