One thing that whales can do very well is eat! These marine mammals have evolved to consume tonnes of food a day in their feeding grounds when the food is available. These are humpback whales, which are baleen whales and is the 4th largest whale behind the Blue, Fin & Sei whales.
However, this species of baleen whale are considered a conservational success story as their global population has really began to bounce back post commercial whaling days. We see these animals migrate towards the tropical waters during the winter time and then travel back to the polar regions as summer arrives, as that is when their food source is plentiful. In a single day it is estimated that a humpback whale can consume over 1 tonne of food!!! Now that is a lot of food...
