Unlike whales, seals or pinnipeds are still somewhat attached to land for breeding and resting purposes. So a great thing is that when you are exploring around large pieces of ice and you see what looks like a rock or something very dark on top of some ice it could be in fact a seal of some sort.

Not to play favourites but the goal for me is to locate a leopard seal, the apex predator of the seal world. These animals are not only huge but very curious and not phased by human presence at all. If they hear you, they will lift their head for a moment, stare at you before laying back down and closing their eyes. An amazing species to interact with and to photograph when you have lighting like I did on this occasion.
