Ma'aw means Grandmother in First Nation from regions in the Great Bear Rainforest off the west coast of Canada. This mature and relaxed lady is something of a super star around the world staring in basically any film that is about the Great Bear Rainforest. For those you do not know what this white looking bear is, it is a Spirit Bear. She is not an albino but rather a blonde bear that is from a genetic anomaly that is caused from a recessive gene giving her this white pigment instead of black.
It is the equivalent of a red head in humans and in black bears its very rare. However, there are some regions within the Great Bear Rainforest where the chances of encountering a Spirit Bear are quite high. They are protected and watched over by the local First Nation communities that are happy to guide people into these regions in order to have a first hand close encounter with bears like Ma'aw.
She is 100% wild and foraging for pink salmon in her usual spot in the river that she has foraged for her whole life. Its one of a kind sort of experience and moment that I recommend everyone put on their list for "things to do" in their lifetime
