Momma bears are some sort of their own fierce force, as it is quite well known that you never get in-between a mum and her cub.. ever! This evening was no different, I found myself guiding a small zodiac up in the Khutze Inlet, which is known as a great place to view wild bears foraging on the banks. It wasn't too long into our little evening exploration where we saw a black bear and her cub wandering along the shoreline in search of some food.
The little one, being a curious little guy, got distracted by something in the grass and stopped following mum for only a brief moment. However, a brief moment was all it took, as mum disappeared from the cub's view unknowing to momma bear. This loss of sight of mum for the cub became a very stressful situation almost instantly. A few seconds later, small cries began in a steady stream from the little cub and the frantic search for mum. To be honest, momma bear was only about 4 metres away from the cub and instantly snapped her head around as soon as the first cry was heard.
That was the moment I took this photo
Not going to lie but it was slightly amusing to watch this sweet moment, knowing full well that they would very easily find each other very quickly, which they did within 30 seconds after this photo was taken.
