Something I always attempt to strive in improving with taking photographs of wildlife is to find a better angle. Just taking a photo of a whale isn't enough anymore, which is sort of a funny thing to say really but after spending years of my life surrounded by these animals almost daily it really does become the norm.

So these days I start to look for everything possible that will be in the shot. As I do this I look around and ask myself...

What will be in the background, lighting, at water level or from a higher position, do I want the whale facing towards me or away from me or side on? What would look really cool?

Then certain little moments will happen when everything sort of line ups the way in which you were hoping and you can finally take a photo. However, so many times before as things have "lined up" perfectly and then something happens... Someone stands up in front of me and blocks my shot, or I didn't get my camera out in time because I am also driving the boat. Oh well.. just have to try again I suppose...
