Life isn't all cuteness and waddling around on ice for these flightless birds. It is a treacherous world that they constantly have to navigate from the day their egg is laid with dangers around almost every corner. This is true when you observe some of the Macaroni breeding sites on South Georgia.
It is here on these steep cliffs that this species will nest whilst constantly transiting from the rocky steep cliffs to the ocean below. This can become even more treacherous when the swell is bigger than usual making the timing of getting in or out of the water some what of a gamble. I must say though... for as cute as these guys are I reckon they are even tougher!
