well, sometimes there is only one piece of ice anywhere near by that you can chill out on. As a result, I guess everyone close by makes a rush for it and before you know it the whole neighbourhood is in your chill out zone.
These are crab eater seals, which is a terrible name because they do not eat crabs. However, they are quite social species of seal in the Southern Ocean and it is very common to see this many or more piled up taking a rest and soaking up the rays on the Antarctic Peninsula.
