One major beautiful thing about crossing the Drake Passage is the opportunity to observe the large seabirds - especially, the Wandering Albatross. Considering the Drake can be anything but smooth it is by far amazing for these majestic seabirds to glide effortlessly around the vessel for a brief moment before continuing on their way in search of food.
It is really easy to see why so many poems have been written by sailors of yesteryear in honor of these stunning seabirds. I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse and a photo of a mature wandering albatross a few days ago, as we crossed the Drake heading for the Antarctic peninsula. Enjoy!
