Encountering leopard seals in Antarctica are always a great time and mean for some awesome photography opportunities. Whether they be in the water foraging for penguins close to penguin colonies or simply resting on a nearby ice floe, they are nothing short of impressive and somewhat intimidating.

When they are resting/sleeping you don't really get much movement from them, as they are not intimidated by humans or vessels, which means it is quite easy to approach them and they are completely relaxed. This is of course the goal of any animal encounter in the wild is to interact with them without making them anxious or scared. Every once in a while though when you are watching them sleep they will open their eyes, yawn widely before laying their head back down and continues to sleep.
