While I think about Ted Kaczynski // Enquanto penso em Ted Kaczynski
The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. At least that's what I tend to think most of the time I come across the dizzying climb towards the precipice that rules our times, not only in terms of society, but in all sub-levels capable of being observed by a layman like me, who don't even need to be a Noam Chomsky of life to realize the fact that we've spent generations and generations burning the candle at both ends.
Recently reading "The Brazilian people - The formation and sense of Brazil" by the great Darcy Ribeiro, I only confirmed that we follow a chaotic and inherent protocol of the human being of having passed through devastating scenes of destruction, looting and draining of soul in order to assemble a new country. And this is nothing new, it was the same (or worse) with the Spaniards in Central America. It was the same with the North American Indians, and so on. At least we can say without much doubt that the entire America was slaughtered and formatted according to the conquerors of the old world, and that they also went through different periods of domination, either as a ruler or as a dominated.
This is not all in line with industrial society, which I mentioned at the beginning of the text, but it is because, perhaps, Kaczynski (the author of this sentence) did not think about the social problem arising from times before the industrial revolution (or perhaps he thought, I have not yet read his book completely) and however dubious his stance in terms of various social issues (and which has nothing to do with the doom of the industrial system that has consumed our souls like dream-eating grease machines), he is still a thinker. fruit of its time and of everything that came from there. It's all too easy to point out mistakes, and I could point out behavioral and social patterns that shaped most of our society's mistakes and how they could have been avoided, but unfortunately (or fortunately) the past is long gone.
In the same way, I could rail against everything that Christianity has done to society in all these years and the thousands of victims of its persecution. But these bitter themes are more hidden, people don't like to comment, just like the hunger holocaust in Ukraine because of a totalitarian communist regime. But we can still point a finger at any country, any country, and we will find genocide and oppression, which proves that this tendency is of man in general and not of a social path that led us to the melting of reason. We do not love violence as a social tool, it has always been with us, the only question is that the more time passes, the more we restrain ourselves, the more refined we become and the more neutralized we become. Many topics are currently taboo and there is a kind of commitment to peace and harmony between nations, which is very beautiful and sensible. Even because we don't need to worry about war and genocide or chemical weapons that cause a pandemic, since we are being killed slowly, day after day by a whole poisonous health "scheme" that we adopt as habits, a pattern of social and work behavior which undoubtedly takes us to a funneled state of anxiety and burnout crisis, we breathe polluted air, we ingest poison from countless different sources, and we practically dope our psyche in a vortex of FOMO (fear of missing out) constant of social networks and applications that keep us glued like zombies. And now no longer just passives scrolling the page in search of a dopaminergic micro ration, but also acting as supposed protagonists of miserable takes with dances and funny things at a record speed of bitterness and loneliness that only apps like Tik Tok are capable of.
And where will I go with such pessimism? I don't think it's pessimism, just a cruelly realistic view. And all I can do is not participate. Not putting myself in the role of the offspring of current times and succumbing to every new wave of stupidity and insanity that infects the unthinking mass (as Waldo Vieira would say). Not all technology is bad (Kaczynski should know), not everything society does is bad. But by the way, the best way to benefit from these rare hits is not to dive. Just take ownership of what you like and make a conscious use of it, in the most it's just moving away from the world, building a real and solid relationship with the earth, with the planet, with your family and your offspring.
