Morning coffee
While the weather is changing quite fast, there's a lot more wind and it's a lot cloudier in the past weeks, we still try to catch the summer feeling as much as we can. On bright days, this is easy to do because opening the windows and having ocean view puts an instant smile on your face, it never gets old! Whenever it's a cold night and we wake up with a cloudy or foggy view, it means that we have a little more issues starting the engines, so the speak.
Thankfully, as soon as I dropped off the little one at school, we both try to have a little coffee break to start our day and try to sit on the balcony to enjoy it. In the past weeks we skipped a few days due to the weather, either too windy or too chilly, but in those cases, we catch up when the sun shows its face and catch some vitamin D at the same time.
Grateful for these moments
It's such a simple thing to have a little coffee break together and let work go for 10 minutes. When working from home, it's very easy to skip this, especially when you don't have a reason to sit outside (cold), but as we've both learned to appreciate these little moments more and more lately, we try making this a habit as much as we can. Sometimes the phone is too busy for my boyfriend to do so, in those cases, it will be a lunch moment instead.
Cats love the view too!
We already knew that the cats love watching what happens downstairs but now that our room situation has changed, they seem to appreciate the outside space more as well. Before, the window in my daughters room (now my office) was usually open with the door closed to make sure they wouldn't break anything there, OR I'd have the windows open just a bit so they could not escape because I want to keep an eye on them.
Since I moved in there with my desk, I have the windows open as far as possible and for as long as possible (depending on the wind haha) and the cats often sit in in between the two windows OR use the window to jump on the balcony table and just enjoy whatever is going on downstairs.
We hear people playing tennis and padel all day long, from early morning until midnight sometimes and they seem to get relaxed by listening to these sounds. It's quite adorable to see.
Coffee and food!
Whenever we can, we eat our lunch outside, and every time we finish, it's standard practice to grab a coffee after and enjoy this scenery for just 5 or 10 minutes more, ideally. If my boyfriend gets called in, I'm lucky to still have my precious Luna with me as she loves hanging out there with me.
Besides the hummus with paprika above, my favourite quick lunch last week was this ham and cheese toast, or as we Dutch call it "Tosti". It was a while since I had it but the cheese and ham needed to be consumed so this was perfect to have a quick lunch and make sure none of the ingredients went to waste..
Coffee intake
As I already predicted not too long ago, when the colder days started to arrive, I longed for coffee more and more. The few times that I could not find the decaf cups and ordered the regular ones I love so much meant that I started to have caffeine more often. The stupid thing is that I noticed quite soon (a few days before I realised it) that whenever I drink decaf, I don't have cravings for another coffee while I do so after every regular cup I drink. Sigh, back to square one?
Nope, I've ordered both of the cups so that I won't go overboard having more caffeine than needed. I mostly long for it because of the temperature and now that I know that the decaf tastes good too, I should be able to have a healthy number rather than overdoing it. This is just the transitioning phase from summer to winter, I guess. Not unknown to me. While summer meant drinking water mostly, now suddenly I long for a hot coffee in the morning (and afternoon and and.. lol)...
Drinking a cup of coffee makes you connect in the little moments when taking a step back and having a break with a loved one, even if just for 5 minutes every day.
Wishing you a good day ahead!
