A recent trip to Spain this past summer brought me to Barcelona. I spent two full days exploring this beautiful and energetic city. In particular, the architecture of Antoni Gaudi caught my eye. My Gaudi education began at Casa Batllo, a decorative and dreamy house renovated by Gaudi between 1904-1907. The house was originally built in 1877, located in Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona.
Palau Guell was the second Gaudi building I experienced. Built between 1886-1888, this majestic palace was designed for owner Eusebi Guell i Bacigalupi. Gaudi even designed a personal coat of arms for Bacigalupi, prominently displayed on the front gate of the palace. Unfortunately I did not take any pictures of the coat of arms, but hopefully this first picture helps to display the intimidating vibe of Palau Guell.
Next up is Casa Mila (La Pedrera). This is a huge residential building, built between 1906-1912 in Passeig de Gracia. The building was baptised by the Barcelona public as La Pedrera, or stone quarry, due to its rocky outside appearance. I only have a few pictures of this building, but hopefully you can get an appreciation for how vast and massive the building is.
And finally, Basilica of the Sagrada Familia. Construction of this temple began in 1882... slated to be completed within the next 10-13 years. This is a truly majestic piece of architecture. Please, if you are ever in Spain, go see this building. Enjoy!
