Yes, you’re absolutely right, many inkcaps, especially the common inkcap (Coprinopsis atramentaria), contain coprine and shouldn’t be eaten with alcohol. It’s best to avoid alcohol for at least 2 to 3 days before and after eating them, as the reaction can be similar to Disulfiram, a drug used to treat alcoholism.
The effects can include severe nausea, vomiting, flushing, and a rapid heartbeat, definitely enough to put someone off alcohol for a while, lol.
The one I’ve found here is the glistening inkcap (Coprinellus micaceus), which doesn’t contain coprine and doesn’t cause this reaction.
But because many inkcaps look quite similar, especially to beginners, it’s always best to be cautious when foraging, as they can easily be mixed up. It took me a while to compare their differences before I felt confident enough to eat them. Thank you. :)
